Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) celebrated her mother’s decision to give birth to her when others said she should have an abortion.

“I am here today, the youngest Republican woman in the country, in Congress, because of my mom’s brave decision and her advocacy for life,” Cammack said.

Cammack also called the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade an incredible moment and credited all the advocates who worked to accomplish this “extremely personal” victory.

When her mother was 27, she had a stroke before giving birth to her older sister, Cammack said.

Doctors told her she would never be able to have more kids safely, but then, her mother became pregnant with her, Cammack recalled.

“She was alone. She was scared, and doctors left, right, and center were telling her to abort me,” she said.

“Even my own grandparents, for fear of her life, asked her, ‘Do you want to die?'”

Her mother made the “courageous” decision to give birth, Cammack said.
