Carolina Panthers seemingly open for business

Carolina’s decision to fire head coach Matt Rhule after just five games has the team looking like it’s going into full-scale rebuild mode. NFL trade rumors have picked up big time in this regard, leading to speculation that multiple big-name players could be on the outs.

Star running back Christian McCaffrey would be the cream of the crop if he’s moved. Starting right tackle Taylor Moton, veteran wide receiver Robbie Anderson and one of the game’s best young edge rushers in that of Brian Burns could potentially be had, too. It’s going to be interesting to see what comes of this in the next few weeks.

NFL trade rumors point to Kendrick Bourne deal

In his first season as a member of the Patriots, Bourne led the team in receiving yards with 800. Unfortunately, he’s no longer a part of the Patriots’ regular receiver rotation in his second season with the team. All said, Bourne has played in 104 total snaps in five games (10 catches, 139 yards).

It’s becoming clear that Bourne wants to join a team that will utilize his skill-set more. Perhaps, a squad like the Dallas Cowboys or Los Angeles Rams comes calling. With a cap hit of under $7 million next season, Bourne would come cheap from a fanancial perspective.

Atlanta Falcons likely to keep dealing ahead of trade deadline

Atlanta’s decision to trade former Pro Bowl linebacker Deion Jones on Sunday caught no one by surprise. His hefty contract combined with both injury issues and regression had the linebacker firmly on the block. With Atlanta still in the early stages of a rebuild, it would not be a surprise if the team moved off other veteran parts. At 2-3, Atlanta also has games coming up against the 49ers and Bengals, potentially expediting a sell-off.

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Grady Jarrett will likely be among the biggest names bandied about. He’s currently working under a three-year, $50.47 million contract and continues to play at a high level (7 QB hits, 3.5 sacks in five games this season). We also wouldn’t be surprised if other veterans such as cornerback Casey Hayward and right guard Chris Lindstrom popped up in NFL trade rumors over the next few weeks.

San Francisco 49ers might make a move for a cornerback

Almost immediately after recording a pick-six of Baker Mayfield in Week 5, 49ers starting cornerback Emmanuel Moseley went down with a torn ACL. It’s a massive blow for a 49ers secondary that has been among the best in the game thus far this season. And while the emergence of Charvarius Ward as a true shutdown guy has helped, there’s a major hole on the other side of the field.

The expectation is now that San Francisco general manager John Lynch will look to the trade market to find an upgrade ahead of Nov. 1. Purely hypothetical here, but the aforementioned Casey Hayward of the Falcons could make sense. Among other non-contending teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers might be willing to part with either Cameron Sutton or former 49ers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon.

Robert Quinn could be headed out of the Windy City

We saw the Chicago Bears move Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers in a blockbuster trade during the spring. With the team in full-scale rebuild mode, dealing Quinn at the height of his value seems to make a ton of sense.

It was during the offseason that CBS Sports’ NFL insider Jason La Canfora noted that Quinn wants out. He was initially a holdout from off-season programs before reporting. Quinn, 32, recoorded 22 QB hits and 18.5 sacks a season ago. He’s slated to count a combined $52-plus million against the cap over the next three seasons. In the opener against the San Francisco 49ers, Quinn recorded two tackles without a quarterback hit or sack and has not done a whole lot since then.
