Latest on James Harden as Philadelphia 76ers open camp
We already know that Harden requested a trade from Philadelphia during the summer. He even went as far as to go after 76ers front office head Daryl Morey in a less-than-subtle manner.
“Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of. Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of,” Harden said on Aug. 14.
The Philadelphia 76ers received multiple inquiries into James Harden since the All-Star guard requested a trade, with the Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks emerging as suitors. However, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported 76ers’ executive Daryl Morey is setting the asking price “extremely high” for Harden.
More recently, it was noted that Harden will report to training camp. However, Morey made it clear that trade talks are still ongoing between Philadelphia and interested teams. We expect something to happen ahead of opening night.
Utah Jazz in the market for a point guard
Prior to Jrue Holiday being dealt to the Boston Celtics, Utah was reportedly in on the All-Star guard. This seems to suggest that front office head Danny Ainge and Co. are not sold on current starting point guard Collin Sexton.
Whether something comes to fruition on this end remains to be seen. Utah is still in rebuild mode, making its interest in Holiday surprising. The team could potentially kick the tires on Markelle Fultz (Orlando Magic), Terry Rozier (Charlotte Hornets) and Spencer Dinwiddie (Brooklyn Nets) should one of them be made available.
New Orleans Pelicans in market for All-Star center
The Pelicans were involved in NBA trade rumors this past summer with suggestions that injury-plagued star forward Zion Williamson could be had. Nothing has come to fruition on this front. Instead, it looks like New Orleans is targeting an All-Star center to pair up with Williamson.
According to According to John Hollinger of The Athletic, New Orleans is interested in 25-year-old Cleveland Cavaliers big man Jarrett Allen. It’s highly unlikely that Cleveland would trade Allen (14.3 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 1.2 BPG in 2022-23). However, this is a clear indication that the Pelicans are in the market for a long-term solution with Jonas Valanciunas holding down the fort. Perhaps, Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers could be an option.
Indiana Pacers in discussions to trade Buddy Hield
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported in September that the Pacers are in talks with other teams to move this high-scoring guard ahead of the start of the regular season. Hield failed to come to terms on an extension with Indiana during the summer and is set to play out the final year of his current contract at $19.2 million.
Seen as a one-dimensional player, Hield could be valued by teams looking for some added scoring in the backcourt. Dating back to 2018-19 with the Sacramento Kings, he’s averaging 17.8 points on 40% shooting from distance.
NBA trade rumors: Chicago Bulls asking price for Zach LaVine revealed
The 28-year-old LaVine was a surprise inclusion in summertime NBA trade rumors. Chicago inked him to a five-year, $215.2 million contract the summer before. The idea was to team LaVine up with DeMar DeRozan and compete or a conference title. Instead, the Bulls fell in the Play-In Tournament.
With Chicago actively engaging other teams in LaVine trade talks, we’re hearing what it might take for another squad to land the All-Star. According to K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, that includes a young player and multiple future first-round picks. LaVine has been brilliant over the past four seasons, averaging 25.5 PPG, 4.7 RPG and 4.5 APG on 48% shooting during that span. Any deal of this ilk likely wouldn’t happen before the February NBA trade deadline. Chicago still thinks it can contend with the current core in place.

NBA trade rumors involving Tobias Harris
We’ve read reports about the Philadelphia 76ers looking to trade Tobias Harris for well over a year. It might now come to fruition. One report indicates that there’s an expectation Harris will not be in Philadelphia next season.
However, it also might be hard for the 76ers to find a trade partner given his $38.2 million salary for the 2023-24 season. A team like the San Antonio Spurs that could be seeking salary relief for next summer makes sense. In this scenario, the likes of Doug McDermott, Zach Collins and Devonte’ Graham head to Philadelphia. Though, that’s unlikely to be much of a needle mover for Philly.
