2022 NFL offense rankings: Lamar Jackson and Ravens rise after Week 3 dominance

The NFL offense rankings are the glamour list of the league. While laying the smackdown on defense is great, scoring with the rock is the name of the game. And defense may win championships, but offense is what fills the stadiums.

Here you will find our latest top 20 of the premier offensive units in the NFL. However, because of the physical violence and competition level in the league, the rankings will surely churn up new orders throughout the season. Now, feast your eyes on the latest NFL offensive rankings following Week 2 of the 2022 NFL season.

The San Francisco 49ers spent the entire summer preparing for the Trey Lance era. That is no longer the plan after the 2021 first-round pick broke his ankle in Week 2. Now, Jimmy Garoppolo is back in the starting spot and has already logged the team’s first win of 2022. Now, instead of some early growing pains with a young QB, the 49ers could rise up the rankings with ole reliable back in charge and greater expectations to be better now.

Unfortunately, they didn’t show signs of that rise in their sad Week 3 showing against the Broncos. They have a spot in the top 20 heading into Week 4, but that may not be for much longer.

19. Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos offense and QB Russell Wilson have been hit with boos from Broncos fans over the last two weeks because of the unit’s unexpectedly poor play at times to open the season. This is not what fans hoped for when the team traded for him and gave him a massive long-term extension. However, when it mattered most in their Week 3 game against the 49ers, the Seahawks legend led the team to a game-winning drive late. Nevertheless, if they don’t pick it up soon they won’t be in the top NFL offense rankings much longer.

The Atlanta Falcons don’t have a franchise quarterback and a slew of ultra-talented weapons on offense but the group continues to put up points each week. Over the start of the season, the Falcons’ offense has put up 26, 27, and 27 points, respectively, in their first three games. Including their Week 3 win over the Seahawks on the road. Marcus Mariota may not be the starter at the end of the season, but he and the offense have been pretty good in 2022.

Matt Ryan and his new squad showed some good things in their season opener despite only earning a tie against the Houston Texans. However, in Week 2 the team was completely shut down by the Jacksonville Jaguars and mustered up a goose egg. With Jonathan Taylor — the best rusher in the league in 2021 — on the roster, it is just a matter of time before the old veteran and the team’s various weapons get on track and put up more consistent performances.

That did not happen in Week 3 versus the Chiefs, but despite being sacked five times, Ryan was efficient in leading the team to a stunning victory over Kansas City.

With new head coach Doug Pederson leading the team, Trevor Lawrence and the offense have been far more competent in 2022. Not to mention, off-season addition Christian Kirk has started to deliver and was a beast in their Week 2 dominance of the Colts. On Sunday, Lawrence showed his upside in nearly throwing for 300 yards and tossing three TDs in a drubbing of the Chargers. James Robinson added another 100 yards on the ground for an offense that is coming along quickly.

The Washington Commanders have a heck of a talented wide receiver corps. and displayed the depth and dangers in this group over their first two games. There is no more proof of how talent-rich they are than the fact that QB Carson Wentz has actually looked pretty good so far in 2022. That changed fast in Week 3 when the offense was shut down and pushed around by the NFC East-leading Eagles.

14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offense has been hampered by Chris Godwin’s injuries, and it has forced them to struggle at times early in the season, but that could also be more based on the caliber of competition they’ve faced to start the 2022 season. Tom Brady’s extended time away from the team in the summer could have had an effect as well. It all seemed to be an issue in Week 3 as the team could only grind out 12 points in a defensive battle and loss to the Packers.

13. Green Bay Packers

The slow start for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers offense was to be expected. There were communication issues between him and his young receivers during the summer, and not having a superstar talent like Davante Adams around anymore was always going to have an effect. With that said, Aaron Jones has gotten off to a strong start and once the passing attack really gets going the Packers could very quickly turn into a dangerous unit.

Kyler Murray was spectacular at times in the team’s Week 2 comeback win against the Las Vegas Raiders. While they stumbled in a major way in their season debut versus the Kansas City Chiefs, the Arizona Cardinals showcased their potential against the Silver-and-Black. Week 3 was a mixed bag as Murry threw for over 300 yards and Marquise Brown had a massive game with 140 yards receiving, however, they only put up nine points in their loss to the Rams.

Joe Burrow sitting out the entire preseason to recover from an appendectomy has had a serious effect on his production to start the season. After being ranked at the top of our list to start the year, his four interceptions and being sacked 13 times have led to a free fall for the Cincinnati Bengals offense in the rankings. However, they showed out in a big way against the Jets in Week 3. Burrow threw for 275 and three touchdowns, and Tyler Boyd deliver a 104-yard receiving performance.

Justin Jefferson has continued his ascension to elite status in 2022, as he has been a monster to kick off the Minnesota Vikings campaign. However, the same can’t be said for Kirk Cousins and running back Dalvin Cook. After pushing around the Packers to open the season, the offense was big brothered a bit by the Philadelphia Eagles. Nevertheless, the Vikings have a talented group and remain an offensive force in the NFL.

9. Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders are off to a disappointing 0-3 start this season, mostly because the defense has not delivered as consistently as the offense. Despite the poor start, the offense has been strong at times, with superstar acquisition Davante Adams and veteran Darren Waller leading the way. Josh Jacobs has also put up solid numbers, but his usage has been far lower than expected. Week 3 offered up some solid numbers (303 yards passing by Derek Carr) but an inefficient performance in another surprising loss against the Titans. In what is becoming a season that is going off the rails quickly.

8. Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert continues to look like a budding superstar in the new season and his crew of receivers has delivered despite some injuries. However, after taking a nasty hit late in their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the young star was quite himself in a Week 3 shellacking to Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars. If this was an early sign of the effect the rib injury is having, the Chargers could slowly start slipping down the rankings.

7. Detroit Lions

Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions’ offense has been a pleasant surprise in the opening weeks of the NFL season. The veteran QB has been rock solid, but running back D’Andre Swift and receiver Amon-Ra St-Brown have been absolute game-changers early in 2022. However, they were slowed down a bit in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings, and without his top weapons firing on all cylinders, Goff and the offense sputtered a bit in their loss on Sunday.

6. Los Angeles Rams

Despite elbow issues that had Los Angeles Rams fans worried, QB Matthew Stafford and the offense seemed to really get rolling in Week 2. And as is the case with being the best at his position, Cooper Kupp has remained a pass-catching superstar in the new season. If the team can get more out of the rushing game, the Rams could once again be a scary group as the season plays out.

That didn’t happen in their Week 3 dominance of the Arizona Cardinals, but Stafford was efficient going 18-25 for 249, and six receivers pulled in 20 or more yards through the air.

5. Miami Dolphins

Tua Tagavailoa has been pretty darn good to start the 2022 Miami Dolphins campaign. The Alabama alum was rock solid in their win over the Patriots in Week 1, and a wrecking machine in their Week 2 comeback victory versus the Ravens. However, the offense was slowed down a bit in a battle of AFC elite against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3. While the ‘Fins offense didn’t dominate, they still were efficient and did enough to score a surprise win over the top team on this list.

Lamar Jackson is in a contract year and as you would expect from any athlete aiming for a big contract, he has been fantastic. Through the air and, of course, on the ground. He showed that once again in Week 3 when he burned Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots through the air and on the ground as the Ravens offense threw up 37 points. It was another dominant showing as they move up in this week’s rankings.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs offense have quieted all the doubters. They lost an elite pass-catching talent in Tyreek Hill and continue to chug along as a dominant offense because of the brilliance of Mahomes. Barring some major injuries, Andy Reid and the boys should continue to be one of the premier scoring squads in the game throughout the 2022 NFL season.

While they were slowed a bit in their Week 3 loss to the Colts, they are a fearsome force in the AFC.

Jalen Hurts has been outstanding through the air and on the ground in year three. Not to mention that Miles Sanders has offered up another strong threat in the rushing game, and AJ Brown has everything the organization hoped for when they traded for him on draft night. With the season-altering injury to Dak Prescott, the Philadelphia Eagles have to be a favorite to win the NFC East because of their deadly offensive offering.

In Week 3 the Eagles were dominant in bludgeoning the Commanders’ defense all over the field. If not for a 400-yard showing for Josh Allen this week, Philly would have our top spot.

1. Buffalo Bills

Sure, getting some more out of the running attack would be great, but there really isn’t much to complain about since the Buffalo Bills have the No.1 offense in the NFL. Josh Allen is on track to be a serious MVP candidate and Stefon Diggs has been an absolute animal in the passing game. While former offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has helped to make the New York Giants an early season surprise, the Bills’ offense has not missed a beat in 2022.

In Week 3, the Bills were on the wrong end of a surprise loss to the red-hot Miami Dolphins. Allen’s 400-yard showing in defeat helps to keep Buffalo in the rankings top spot.
